Function is defined as:
"Any of a group of related actions contributing to a larger action; especially the normal and specific contribution of a bodily part to the economy of a living organism."
Function is the cornerstone for every task we undertake. Assessing function throughout the pain rehabilitation process is critical to address limitations and improve self reliance through mobility, stability and efficiency. At Creative Pain Solutions our functional approach to pain management focuses on restoring economy of movement and improving the body’s function in three planes of motion. Ours is a total body approach.
To accomplish this each patient is evaluated thoroughly to ensure that limitations and compensations are identified at all levels. Once the areas of limitation are identified and understood, they can be systematically addressed and corrected.
A functional assessment incorporates evaluation of a wide range of activities, patterns of movement and physical capacities including but not limited to: Walking, Reaching, Bending, Squatting, Climbing, Lifting, Carrying, Breathing, Endurance, Balance, Safety, Effort, Body Awareness, Stability, Mobility, Compensations and Pain Limitations.
At Creative Pain Solutions, we perform functional screening to determine current tolerances and abilities as part of the initial team evaluation to ensure the best fit physically and functionally with the program. In addition, we offer a full Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) when documentation of more complete functional limits and validity of effort are required for determination of maximum medical improvement (MMI) and/or return to work status.
